How I Trim / Cut my Border Collie Daisy Dog's Claws / Nails
My Border Collie Daisy Dog is protecitve of her paws & claws. I've always trimmed my Border Collie's toe nails at home, myself. I'll admit I have nipped one too short, one time. My Daisy hasn't forgotten.
The most important tip, is to trim Daisy's claws when I have the time to give this project my full attention. My Border Collie Daisy & I would both rather do something else. Anything else. This Trimming my dog's claws needs to be done for her comfort, even though she has a lot of out door play time every day.
I know I need 15 minutes to trim my Border Collie Dog's claws. I block out a full half an hour of time to sit, visit, pat, maybe brush my dog & round up all the treats, clippers & bandages that I might need.
I stay calm & keep my voice steady, no matter what might happen while Trimming my Border Collie Dog's nails.
Once I'm ready, I work as quickly as I can & being certain to not cut my Border Collie Dog's claws too short is my first priority. I push away all the paw fur so I don't tug it with the clippers. I hold the claw / nail to be cut, near the base so the clippers won't tug or twist the claw in the nail bed instead of cutting the nail through.
I give Daisy a tiny treat for each toe nail / claw that she lets me cut. Don't forget the dew claws part way up the front legs of your dog, if your dog has them. They grow, too. To work a little quicker, I will cut two or three of Daisy dog's claws before rewarding her with treats for all of the claws clipped. Sometimes I can finish a minute sooner than I planned. My Border Collie & I love to be finished with our tasks & chores sooner, so we can do something fun together.
